I'm glad the flights are back, BUT 3 out of 4 flights are on ERJ-135's, with the 4th on a 737-700. Looks like upgrade chances on that route will be slim. It seems odd to use RJ's at a slot-controlled airport like DCA. You would think there was greater demand for service.

i'm not sure i'd fly into DCA anymore. i don't like the "freeze in your seats for the last 30 minutes rule".
RJ's must be a "demand and cost" issue. not as much demand into DCA, and in CLE you can always fly to BWI for a lot less. i always go into BWI and rent a car or take the train to DC. the yield from a business traveller into DCA are much lower than say EWR or PHL. RJ costs must make the yield on the route better.

It might just be a temp thing for the RJ's. The first week when NW opened up from DCA, I was on an A320 with 36 pax. The don't need the big plane until the loads require it. Watch it go to a 737 in a month or so.

The zipper and I both live/lived/will live within spitting distance of DCA--- and to me, the 30 min. rule, security sweeps, extra ID checks, etc. etc. sure beat the BWI bus to MARC train to Red Line to Yellow line ordeal to reach Arlington/Alexandria, especially after a long trip. You can find good DCA fares if you look: ~$200 RT fares to CA, comparable to BWI.

Even with the added inconvenience of DCA in a post-9/11 world, DCA is still far more convenient than IAD or BWI if your final destination is on the Metro. DCA is still a relative breeze security-wise (compared to BWI, IAD, and other airports nationwide). I'd often rather connect from DCA than a nonstop from IAD (or BWI) because DCA ground transport is a breeze.

As far as ground transportation, the Route 5A bus, express from IAD to Rosslyn Metro and L'Enfant Plaza is a great option (hourly until like 11pm daily)---- but the one bad thing about IAD post-9/11 is the terrible set-up for security. I've heard too man horror stories of people missing flights as they wait to pass security.
I'm flying from IAD on 1/31-- planning to leave from work to make a 6:30 flight, and i hope I don't have to take 1/2 day off to do it.
