Standby Procedures
I have previously posted about my chances of standby on NW codeshare on CO metal. I am ticketed EWR-MSY on a 7AM connection thru CLE. I would prefer the 7:05AM nonstop to MSY. I am pretty confident I can standby, there are 12 coach and 4 first available according to ITN.
Should I
1. Use the e-ticket machine and then head off to the gate of the nonstop.
or
2. Stand on line at the main ticket lobby.
or
3. Go directly to a customer service center on the nearest concourse.
Thanks for the input.

I'd do #1. If you're checking bags, you need to let them know when you check it to put 'STANDBY' tag on there.

You really should try to fly with only carry on luggage. I had a problem flying stand by since I had checked my bags. Besides there is only one direct flight from CLE to MSY a day. If you miss that flight you are then stuck in CLE. The only way for you to then get to MSY that day is to either fly back to EWR or to then fly IAH to MSY. Try packing lightly and hope to get on the direct flight. Apparently they are trying to now make people fly domestically with their luggage.

If you are on a NW issued ticket, you CANNOT travel on a nonstop flight operated by Continental to/from a Continental hub to your final destination. It is one of the terms of the NW/CO codeshare agreement.
