On a recent NW flight, I got this same quote from the gate rep as well, then asked to be put on the standby list. She said I was already on it. I went back to the Worldclub and asked a rep. there about it and she said I WASN'T on the standby list. Boy was I furious!!! Of course I didnt get the upgrade on the flight. The interesting thing I did find out, is that when they put you on the airport upgrade list now, the machine produces a slip which shows you are on the list. So make sure you ask for the slip if you are flying NW and put on the UG list.</font>

I believe that if I were to check in using the eticket machines, I could be put on the wait list for upgrades. I assume this would still work even if at the time I checked in, first class "was checked in full." Maybe a way to bypass these potential problems with gate agents.

Speaking of machine, does Continental's eService machine put you on stand-by upgrade list too if FC is full?
Thanks.
Thanks.

LAST NIGHT
"FIRST IS CHECKED IN FULL", "We HAVE REVENUE PASSENGERS ON STANDBY"
When I got to the gate they were passing out complimentary upgrades to the chumps who had volunteered to resolve their over booking instead of rewarding their loyal customers.
Got upgraded, but had I not been P I amd sure I would have been in the back

Yep, it'll say something like "Unable to upgrade First Class. Eligible Elite members have been added to the standby list" and then on your boarding passes where you didn't get upgraded, you'll see "ADDED TO FC STANDBY LIST."
It'll never say, "First is checked in full" with no emotion, either!
