WOW...that was cheap

Just paid $158.90 for DEN-IAH return during the week of April 3rd (no Sat night). Haven't seen it that inexpensive in a couple of years!

Just sharing.

And we wonder why CO is sliding on that slippery slope? I just booked a midweek day trip CLE-DCA for $145. This was over $600 last year and dropped due to flyI going to IAD and US going to DCA.

I'm obviously very surprised at this fare. Must be post-spring-break...no skiiers or other leisure travellers at all. Summer is a couple of months away. DEN-IAH flights are usually packed, but not that week, apparently (at least not yet).

I would say spring bookings are down. On flights in April, I am still the only assigned seat on two segments (these are RJ45 though).

I think Delta's new fare structure has something to do with this. Airlines business is really brutal. The cost (fuel) keeps going up, and the revenues (ticket prices) are going down. Spend $200.00 on trans-con and you are on first class. Not that I am complaining.

Threads like these make my stomach (ie wallet) hurt.

There are lots of things that could be said in light of everything, but I'll refrain...except to point out that what most are paying for tickets these days would not even cover the gas bill if they were to drive to their destination instead. Oy.

If people drive solo, sure.

But take a transcon at 3,000 driving miles each way = 6,000 miles RT / 25 miles per gallon for a passenger vehicle = 240 gallons x $2 per gal = $480 / 4 passengers = $120 RT per person in fuel.

Obviously there are other costs associated with driving (both monetary and time), but there are also efficiencies related to having many people in the same vehicle -- whether it's a car or an airplane.

I hear ya flymeaway - I have been in a similar situation at a former employer and it is not fun. Then again, as an intelligent consumer and employee it would be irresponsible of me not to select the most cost-efficient option that fulfills my needs and requirments. Whenever and wherever possible I select CO as my carrier, some of it due to my elite benefits, some of it being my little way of contributing to the bottom line, and a lot of it being the fact that you and your coworkers provide a high level of service that I appreciate. We, the people who fill the seats, do not set the fares and certainly can not be responsible for idiotic decision making in the greater atlanta area.

hehe...that was kind of cute.

I didn't intend that to be a dig toward you guys - you'd be fools if you didn't take advantage of the fares. It's the market and climate in general that need a good swift kick in the arse.

I just bought my first ever full fare ticket on CO. Found out I have to be in Dallas for a meeting on Monday, so I leave this Sunday night EWR-DFW and return Monday night. $1,099 and I am confirmed in F for the outbound.

American was $1400, United was close to $1000 with a stop and Orbitz had nothing direct for under 1000. I cant wait to get those 150% EQMs, never had an opportunity to collect like that....

For all of the years that I have been travelling for work and play it still amazes me when I take advantage of some fares. Sure, something beats nothing if the seat is not taken (a la flyI), but $250 to LAX without a Saturday stay or $275 to HNL is laughable.

I had to be in Atlanta for business quickly a few weeks ago. Coach was $393 round trip and first class was $410 round trip EWR - ATL. Now explain how that makes sense??!! (Of course I booked first, I'm no fool).
