Need Help Understanding Fare Classes

Hi,

While I have a general understanding of the various CO fare classes, I really want to know for sure how to interpret them. From ITN on a flight I'm taking this weekend, I got the following info: A4 D3 F1 Y6 H6 K6 B6 V5 Q2 T0 . Would someone please be kind enough to break it down for me, especially how to interpret the First Class codes. Thanks!

That's pretty accurate, however Z class is also sometimes a highly discounted BusinessFirst flight (and sometimes it may be an economy class, i think). Upgrades from Y are booked in Z. Upgrades from H,K are booked in R. R seats frequently do not exist even when Z seats do.

No, but if you can point me towards the right information, I can put it together.

Or, if you register for the ITYT Library, you can add the category and all the data yourself! It's a little tricky at first, but a breeze to contribute once you get the hang of it.

Got it! Thanks for the correction; I've modified the library to reflect your information.

One code missing is "C". This is equivalent to A on an international flight where no BusinessFirst service is offered.

Also, D is sometimes a discounted BF fare. For example, IAH-HNL has had a published D fare that's about half the J fare and is almost always available.

Got it. I added "(or discounted domestic BizFirst)" to the description for D. If it applies to more than just domestic BizFirst, let me know and I'll clear it up.

Please feel free to also browse the rest of the Continental category in the library and let me know if you see anything else that needs to be corrected. Anyone can register and add their own content or tips, too.

Two more additions:

1) Q class in the listing of non-refundable coach above T and below V.

2) There are some routes with refundable Q/T class fares, usually where they compete with Southwest IAH-AUS,DAL,MSY etc in these routes there I don't know if you can buy a Y class ticket or you still get a T as the rules are the same. I just got off the phone with CO (getting a refund for a ticket) and found out that QL____ fare codes are refundable. So if there is a L after the Q it is refundable.

NR or IP at the end of the fare code is another indicator that the fare is non-refundable.

Yes, sometimes it's available for Int'l BF. I once bought a one-way FCO-EWR D-fare for a few hundred less than J. FWIW, it was only valid on the FCO-EWR leg, not the EWR-FCO leg, even though there was D availability on both legs. For whatever reason, CO wouldn't price the outbound in D, only the return, and only on a one-way (hence, two one-ways).

Great! Thanks for all the input.

I've:
  • Added "Q" class to the list of fares
  • Removed "domestic" from the description of discount D fares
  • Added some explanations of Fare Codes
