Upgrade Chances?

I've decided to switch to Continental for my PHX/EWR weekely commutes so I can actually get a meal on the plane. My question is - what are my U/G odds? I am a NW Gold and and HP Platinum. I beleive I can get CO gold upgrade privalages using my NW number, but can I use my HP status to stand-by if I don't clear in advance?

Do golds ever get the U/G on this route (it's not very common for HP golds to get it on the HP flights)?

It probably depends on the flight. My wife and I flew EWR-PHX on an 8:20 PM Friday evening flight and PHX-EWR on a 10:00 PM Sunday flight, and we both had upgrades to F on both segments. I'm a CO Silver Elite and she used space-available upgrade coupons to get her seats.

I suspect that it's not as easy on daytime flights, but there still may be a chance...

I concur with Hashman. I've flown the PHX/EWR route many times early this year and it was difficult to get upgraded (I'm a CO Gold). The red eye flight was usually booked solid with FC. Not sure how the flights are these days, post WTC. Good luck.

Since the thread is about upgrade chances, I guess I should ask my pregunta here:

Does anyone have any experience/info. re: historical upgrade availability ATL-EWR for CO 1154 11/21 (Wed. b4 Turkey Day), with a return on CO 1157 11/25 (Sunday after)? I'm a CO Plat., and bought my $251 ticket (I STILL can't believe that I shelled out that much for this trip ) on the 5th...

I was thinking of the Sunday 12:30 flt to EWR and the Thurs. 17:20 flt home. That's close to the schedule I run on HP. I noticed ITN has A D & F zerod out, but you can buy a seat from thier website, so I dunno. Any one with experience on these flts?
