What does "HP" mean?

Sorry for what may seem like an easy question for most of you. I am new to the board, but don't worry I won't be asking these silly questions all the time. I did try the glossary but "HP" wasn't in there. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to FlyerTalk infiniteflyer.

HP = America West Airlines. It's the official two letter designator for it.

It's because Air Niger already had the code "AW", and all the other "A"'s were taken. I've heard that it stands for "Hub Phoenix", but don't take my word for it.

See:Why use the short HP for America West?

And if you're a pilot, dispatcher, or controller, America West is known as "cactus."

I believe that is the airline code for America West. Like CO is for Continental.
