EUA makes daytime appearance
Stopped by the counter this afternoon to buy a restricted (V) ticket to FLL for day after tomorrow returning in three days and asked the agent for Platinum upgrades. All I got then was the standard party line, "That's all done automatically."
So I asked her for some Elite seats and figured I would work on the UGs over the telephone when I got to the office. At which stage, she proceeded to start to get me the seating but suddenly she looked up with surprise and said "It gave you 2A on the outbound." She looked again and sure enough, it had given me 3A on the return.
This was my first daylight sighting of EUA when buying a restricted ticket. Is it now happening to everyone? Some times? Every time?

I had a similiar experience last week on NW. I had laready been confirmed, via EUA in first class. I was doing a standby for an earlier flight, the ticket counter said They can only assign FC seats at the gate,
since you're a standby. I then headed for the worldclub, the said the same thing. The NW agent then said "I can try and switch you to the earlier flight. Then she gives me a puzzled look and says "seat 2a, same as you had before, looks like it worked" I said "sounds good to me".

If true, this could could lead to a back door method of invoking EUA. Perhaps it is tied to the seat assignment routine when it occurs within the applicable upgrade window. I assume that these would be the required conditions for EUA to be invoked (and for testing to occur):
If this phenomenon repeats itself, (or if someone has an upcoming itinerary that can satisfy the above conditions) I, for one would be interested in knowing.

- No seat assignments are present.
- Must be within the applicable window.
- Must have inventory in "F".
- And most importantly - the testing pax must have an "Angel" that is trusted to give the "truth"; i.e. won't override the system if it actually assigns a seat in FC.
