Fare Code Question

I am in the process of booking some flights for Sept. THe difference in price between a B code tkt and a V code tkt is only 45 dollars. Would there be much of an advantage buying the more expensive fare, especially in terms of upgrading. These are coast to coast flights, so I don't want to lose out on the option to be able to upgrade easier. Thanks in advance

Do you have elite status? If so, the fare class is irrelevant (between B and V.)

If not, then it is also pretty much irrelevant.

If you are using miles to upgrade, then the fare class is...irrelevant-- again between B and V.

I can't think of any reason to spend the extra $$.

I am Silver. My wife has no status.

In what cases then is fare class important? Unless of course you buy 'Y' class as a Gold or Plat elite, the discount fare categories are basically all the same. Or so it seems...?

The only reason is for the EUA upgrades for elites the cost is the second tie breaker. If there are not enough FC for all the silver elites in FC, then date of purchase decides. IF...IF there are 2 silvers with the same date of purchase , then cost of ticket (most expensive). The ONLY time I could imagine a tie would be for day before of day of purchases. If you are buying more than a week in advance the probability calcualation to create such a tie is huge. Save the money.
