Elite Status Challenge

Does CO have a elite level challenge like AA does? I haven't flow on CO that often and have thought about switching my choice of airlines to CO. AA's works by obtaining qualifying points, if you obtain 5,000 in a three month period, you receive gold benefits, and if you obtain 10,000 in a three month period, they will comp you platinum status. Does CO do the same?

Isn't AA's 8,000 gold and 16,000 plat?

Anyway, someone can correct me if I've missed something, but I've never heard of that one anywhere but AA.

Nope, it's 5,000 & 10,000. I just completed the Plat Chalange last week and it only took 10,000 q-points.

Perhaps, it's not such a good idea to "challange" your way to the top on several airlines. These comp status's are only valid till Feb on CO. After that you go back to no status unless you actually fly enough betwwen now and the end of the year. The desire to have all kinds of elite cards in your wallet, when you really don't fly enough to earn them. This could be called the "AFANG" principle. He got CO gold after 5 flights then used that to get comped fromm AA. Now he won't fly enough to keep his status on either. He would have been better served, waiting till Next year to get comped on AA because of his challanged (fake status) elite level. Then instead of being zero elite in 2002 he would have had status on AA in 2002. Still would have gotten burned in 2003... but an extra year is an extra year.

Getting status for a short period is not the only reason to do challanges. I completed the platinum challenge so I could merely have the benefits right now. I'm on track to be 40% over what is required for the platinum level on AA right now. My main reason for asking is because of how my travel is changing over the next year. I could still fly AA to all the destinations but it would be multiple stops when I could just fly direct on CO. It's not a matter of "horing" airline cards, but a matter of time better spent doing things.
