Mileage pooling?

This may be the dumb question of the day, but if you are going on a trip with someone via award travel and they are short say 50k miles, can the other person "assist" them? I mean if they are going on the same trip is their a way to "pool" miles? I had heard you could transfer miles, however I also heard that that is expensive..

Anyone have any advice?

Wow...I have a similar question (and with searching disabled it seems reasonable to ask). My Dad, Mom and I have CO miles scattered across 3 accounts. Is there anyway to transfer all the points to one account?

An award reservation must be ticketed entirelly from one's account. You can't use partial miles from one account and the remainder from another account. The transfer of mileage can be costly if you need transfer a signifcant amount vs. only a few thousand.

Continental does run a mileage transfer promotion between accounts, I recall it was up to $7.50 per 500 miles with a minimum transfer of 2,500 miles. This mileage promotion is not running to my knowledge right now.

CO's mileage xfer program charges more for the transfer than the miles are worth. You might as well burn them on a won auction than attempt a transfer to someone else.
