MyPoints and OnePass

I have 6,000 points with MyPoints.com and would like to convert them to OnePass miles. It's not possible to do it directly - MyPoints doesn't have any agreement with Continental. Is there any other way to do it?. I would be happy to get 4,000 OnePass miles for the 6,000 points I have. Regards, John

Sorry to say that I seriously doubt whether you will be able to get a conversion ratio so high. Looking at the MyPoints reward table, I see that you can convert 1,000 MyPoints to 1,000 HHonors points. Since airline miles are doubled going into HHonors, this means that this should be equivalent to 500 miles, and you have 6,000 mypoints = 3,000 CO miles AT BEST.

However, you can't actually do this since Hilton's reward exchange schedule shows that it takes 10,000 HHonors points to get just 1,500 Continental miles. Even if they did allow an exchange of 6,000 HHonors points, you would then only get 60% of 1,500 or 900 miles.

By looking at the exchanges of points into cash certificates, I can see that the value of your mypoints miles is $55 since 5,250 points can be exchanged for a $50 Tower Records certificate and the remaining 750 is good for a $5 blockbuster certificate.

Since most people value their miles at $0.02/mile, you are offering someone the equivalent of $55 in value for $0.02*4000 = $80. However some nice person might help you out of the goodness of their hearts. Mypoints gives a kind of lousy exchange the rate ranges from a lousy 0.67 cents/mile to 0.95 cents/mile - they don't even give you one cent per mile, much less two cents/mile!

Moral is, you always lose converting into airline miles.

If you get 4,000 more mypoints you could convert them into HHonors and then to American Airlines (better exchange ratio than CO for 2,000 miles). This would place a value of only $40 on them, so I recommend that you just don't do the conversion and just spend them at mypoints where at you can get almost $100 for them. Even better, keep them in the Hilton system since you don't lose anything by this conversion, and start saving points for a hotel for your next vacation.
