I'm Taking the Bus!

Due to a weather reroute through CLE instead of EWR, I am short Plat. status by 170 miles! Since I will be at my parents for the holidays (ABE), I will take the infamous CO bus from ABE-EWR-ABE on 12/29/00. The actual one way distance is only about 70 miles.

For elite qualification purposes, will I get 1000 miles or 140 miles for the round trip journey (the latter would really suck)?

That "flight" gives the minimum 500 one-way Elite qualifying miles, as with any other Continental/Continental Express (real) flight under 500 miles.

Hope that helps!

Since you were rerouted involuntarily (though it wasn't CO's fault), have you tried calling OnePass and asking for the mileage credit based on your original itinerary through EWR? They may be willing to just credit you the 170+ miles you need for Platinum.

I second fallinasleep's suggestion. CO would be hard-pressed to deny someone Plat status based on 170 miles, especially given your circumstances.

CO service on ABE-EWR is by bus. Just check the routing at Continental's website. On the righthand side, it says the service is by bus. You earn 500 status miles each way.

Thanks Sheryl and Fallin for your advice. I did exactly that, and CO gave me instant Plat status while they reverse the trip via CLE and credit the trip via EWR.

Obtaining Plat status has been bittersweet for me. After all the extra planning and travel I did in December and Nov., I recently was offered a job promotion that carries little to no travel!!

I know that feeling. I changed jobs recently and went from 100% travel to 20% and now down to nearly 0. Tough to maintain top tier status with no business travel

Reviewing our travel needs for next year, I may actually be stepping up to Gold. It will likely be short-lived, but a year or two of Gold would be a nice step up from Silver. (Especially in light of the latest program change).

dg1,

Why are you trying to maintain top level status if you don't do business travel?

Doesn't that defeat the purpose?
