Klm Eqm

Has anyone else noticed that KLM flights give you 100%+ EQM's, even for deeply-discounted fares? What gives? Why doesn't NWA do this?

It's a CO decison is why. CO decided to only award 50% on NW flights. NW would love to have 100% I'm sure. It would encourage OP flyers to fly on them instead of flying CO.

KLM is the only airlines that you get full EQM no matter what class flown... SHHH don't say anything! Last falli flew to TXL from EWR (by way of AMS) for like 420 dollars... KLM quality Coach is decent and berable (the free drinks make it easy to handle).

If KLM is having a fare sale go for it!

KL codeshares?

I have noticed this on all alliances.

On AA I get 100% if I fly on a FinnAir ticket but only 25% on an Iberia ticket even if both segemts are on IB metal (FI codeshare). (ARN-MAD)

I am assuming that there is some sort of contractual agreement between each airline with each alliance and that they pay per mile credited. In this case the airline offering 100% pays more hoping to attract PAX.

If the IB/FI is an indicator, do you get 100% on a KL booked PNR even on NW metal?

Since KL and NW are as close to a single airline as can be without going over, you should get 100% EQM as long as you're ticketed on KL stock regardless of whether it's NW or KL metal.

Sweet! I was considering the KLM flight IAH-AMS instead of the 2 CO flights, mainly because I have flown that route on CO many times, so I want to shake things up a bit, as well as fly on a 747-400, something that is becoming increasingly rare these days from any airport in Texas. Plus, I hear that the KLM coach is pretty good, the IFE notwithstanding.

Plus, I must admit that I want to gawk at the Dutch stewardesses...err...FA's (female only ) as well.

You can't buy a ticket on KL stock in the USA. All NW or KL tickets issued in the USA are on NW ticket stock (ticket numbers begin with 012).

It's decent. On my recent KL transatlantic flights the FAs have all worked pretty hard to take care of the pax in coach. Plus they have free drinks and ice cream.

I personally find the coach seats on the KL 747 a little less claustrophobic than on the CO 777. The seat pitch is the same lousy 31", but I appreciate the lack of IFE equipment boxes under the window seats, because I like to strech my legs under the seat in front of me.

Also, the CO 777 IFE usually only plays terrible movies and TV shows anyway, so the only aspect of the CO 777 I miss on the KL 747 is empower (which would let me watch my own movies on my laptop).

Finally, if you're taking KL and want to use your own headphones, be sure and pick up one of these. Some people don't mind the phones they give you on board, but I prefer to use my own.

In this instance, the name on the side of the plane determines the EQM credit - KL metal - full EQMs on a $300 cheapie to AMS; NW metal - hope ya got a good deal on a Q+ fare...

...NWA.com regularly sells flights with KL flight numbers for flights from the US to Europe on BOTH KL & NW metal.
If you are saying these tickets do not qualify for 100% CO EQM, I'll have to disagree.

KLM-coded, yes
KLM-operated, yes
100% EQM producing, yes

But not KLM ticket stock. It's a technicality that themicah was pointing out.

Nope. All I was saying was that xyzzy's theory was wrong (which is unusual for xyzzy--he's usually right). CO EQMs can't be determined by NW vs. KL ticket stock.

All NW or KL tickets purchased through nwa.com will be issued on NW ticket stock, meaning the ticket number will begin with 012. I believe tickets issued on KL stock begin with 074. FWIW, tickets issued on CO stock begin with 005, DL is 006, AA is 001, etc.

My hunch is that UAwatcher's assertion that CO EQMs are based on metal is correct. Every other CO or NW EQM situation seems to be based on the metal flown, not the code or ticket stock.

Let's throw ticket stock out for now. You can use aa.com and get various carriers issued on AA stock, so that's a moot point.

CO also knows (and now reports) the coding and fare basis. So while metal flown is part of it, each code has a fare basis that maps to another fare basis if it's a codeshare (e.g., NW K = CO L). CO knows both of these from your ticket.

I'm not so sure -- I recall hearing otherwise around the time that the 50% nonsense started. I ended up on CO metal instead of KL/NW for a trip around then so I never found out for myself.
