matching status?
Hi!
I am going ot reach Air Canada Aeroplan Elite(mid tier) in december and would like to switch to Continental for 2001 as im moving to the US and will be travelling frequently out of EWR. DOes CO has a program where they match status.. and what level would I get on CO.. I will have flown 53,000 year to date miles by dec 31, 2000.
Thanks for your help!

CO does match status usually. They comp the equal of the matching programs level. So you would probably get Gold on CO and they only comp once a lifetime. Give OP a call and send them proof and you will be set. Good luck.

NO...why would the give you miles? Your not giving up your canadian miles. I'm puzzled either I don't understand the question or things must be VERY different in canada!

Continental courteously matching your status ought to be enough of a gesture.
Have you ever flown with CO?

I wouldn't ask CO Onepass for free miles after they comped you to Gold status. They may label you as one of those who wants everything and then revoke your Gold status!!! After all, they are giving you a gift of first class for coach paid fares in anticipation that you will be loyal to CO.
Perhaps you mean if they comp you mid-year, would they give you "credit" for the status miles flown year-to-date on AC. I would seriously doubt that too.

Are you referring to miles as some sort of enrollment bonus?
You might want to check at the Onepass Website. There is a Prestige Pack you can purchase and among other things you'll receive miles. If you do a search you'll find that there are many posts with details about this kit.
If your looking for CO to give you 50K worth of miles that would be highly unlikely.

Unlikely bordering on impossible. But a legitimate question for someone to ask if they are not familiar with such programs and practices. After all, if you look at the practices of long-distance telephone companies, one could draw a parallel.
And, FWIW, when I first read this thread, it seemed like some of us were unnecessarily curt with a new poster, while we should act just the opposite.

Agreed, being relatively new to the board myself, i have always appreciated the way in which most people try to help out one another.

I agree with MOTNOT. I tried not to be offensive...I hope it wasn't taken that way.

If CO matches status latter year like now, do they restrict it until December 31, or would they roll it thru 2001? Had this discussion on UA board.
Seems like after about OCTOBER if you are comped, UA allow it all 2001, in fact with UA, all tier level runs right to end feb 2002.
What does CO do, anyone know?

BA matched the status I had achieved with Canadian Plus in November 2000 and it's valid thru 2001.
AA was also willing to match the status I reached with C+ with similar terms.
They did not give me any miles/points. (Then again, I didn't ask for any.)

Anyone ever have any luck getting Continental to match top tier membership? I will be moving to Houston sometime this year, and suspect that I'll get better routing out of IAH through CO than on AA. I am currently an Executive Plat. on AA, which is their highest tier. I'd have to think awfully hard if I had to take a step backwards...

Good news!! You don't have to "think awfully hard"...CO gives out PLAT status like candy....you have EXEC PLAT with AA...send them a copy of your statement...and you're in!!! Welcome!!!
