Is this itinerary "nesting", and is it permitted by program rules?
I have some unexpected time off coming up, and haven't been on a plane this year except for two UA sh*ttle flights, so of course my thoughts turned to "mileage run."
I've been wanting to go to visit friends in AUS but get choked up every time I see the $386 RT which is the cheapest available lately out of SFO. So just for the heck of it, I started pricing SFO-AUS via Europe. I came up with an itinerary through LGW for $800, which I think would be worth it because of the extra mileage bonuses and miles towards Platinum for next year.
My itinerary is:
Ticket 1: SFO-LGW-SFO
Ticket 2: LGW-AUS-LGW
Questions:
(1) Would this itinerary be described as "nesting"? If not, is there a name for it?
(2) Is ticketing such as this "permitted" by CO?
(3) Does anyone else here do stuff like this? Am I crazy?
I'll never forget the first time I met Scott the Flier and he told me he had flown from San Francisco to Pittsburgh via Munich because it was so much cheaper than a SFO-PIT direct flight. I thought he was crazy!

Maybe "end to end" even though the routing is not completely "onward"

DGolds,
YES,YES, Doesn't everyone? I flew from CLT to MEM via DUS and it was cheaper! I can tell you that I nest tickets like you've never seen. I'm going to post my Feb. Itnerary later today. Please realize these are 7 nested tickets. Nests inside of other nests. Actually, CO can't sell me the tickets I need because their computer only will let them enter 6 segment pairs. Thus they NEST tickets themselves at CO. Typically I have to talk to the fare desk which will comfirm what I already figured out on line. So, don't worry... they'd bury me under the jail before they went after you. I have 37 segments in 5 weeks. On the bright side, you should see gate agents reactions when they pull up my internerary!
