"The Extra Mile" promotion
I signed up for this a while ago, flew some flights, and the bonus miles have not posted. Is anyone else having this problem?

Bonus miles and partner miles traditionally take longer to post than base miles...sometimes by as long as 3 or 4 weeks. If it's been longer than that then check with CO. But then, we know CO never fouls up posting miles or getting statements out!
BTW, did you receive an email confirmation from CO when you purchased the bonus, and was your credit card charged?

Extra Mile bonus miles will start posting on January 8th and then every week thereafter. This info comes from the Onepass Service Center.

I don't understand the "extra mile" promotion.
As I read it, I could spend $100 to get
up to 10,000 extra miles. I would only
get those miles if I flew a corresponding
distance -- very likely but not guaranteed
should something happen (health, job, whatever). If I do fly that much, I'm buying miles at 1 cent/mile. I hear "rules of
thumb" that value FF miles anywhere from
about 1-2 cents/mile. I'd like to be getting
a bigger discount before I commit in advance
to something that saves me 0-50% at some
point in the indefinite future.
Am I missing something, or is it just that some people value these miles at enough over 1 cent/mile to be willing to pay $100 up front?

Frisky,
First of all, welcome to the boards! And you are right on target!
The "Extra Mile" promo isn't really all that great! But it is fair and reasonable. There have been many threads here about the value of frequent flyer miles, and a "somewhat" consensus is 2 cents a mile. That, of course, can be argued up or down.
So, figured at that, 10,000 miles is worth $200. But if you order the promo online, you get an additional 1,000 miles. So that's 11K miles for $99. That figures out to less than 0.011 cents a mile. And that's pretty fair, if you are sure that you will actually fly the 20K miles necessary to get the addl. 10K bonus miles.

I signed up for it. I look at it this way - 10K miles is a one-way transcon FC upgrade on a non-Y fare. That's certainly worth $100 to me - especially since I expect to use it for when my mom goes to CA in May.

OK, so I was convinced enough to give it a try -- and was very disappointed to see that CO asks for this information via HTTP rather than HTTPS (secure sockets)
. Is it worth 1Kmiles to put my credit card out on the Internet? Hey, CO, are you listening?

IMHO itsa not a good deal, ie the 100 bucks would get you miles and elite miles if spent for tickets directly. I made a similar analogy on the Diners Club forum recently.
Frisky I went as if to sign-up and got this secure connection using my trusty laptop with Win98 and IE5.5..... and got this sign-up page, https://www.onepass.com/Asp/aliasframe.asp?Refer=extramile . You might want to recheck. CO aint that dumb (I hope).

I tend to peg miles at 1.67 cents per (i.e. one and two-thirds cents), though of course it's somewhat subjective.
I would probably earn the 10,000 but didn't go for this offer because I don't like the cap. In the best case I get $183 worth of miles for $99, which is good but not great. It also has to be Continental rather than NW or HP, which decreases flexibility. The best deals I book approach $1 in mileage value for every dollar in airfare, plus there's the junket trip itself (I don't do pure mileage runs, but have been known to do weekend trips).
CO's mileage transfer offer also seems to be a test of whether customers know the value of a mile.

I value miles at .05 per mile. They key is to see what you use your miles for. I used to buy 1st class transcons (because of my weight). These cost about $2000. At 40,000 miles that works out to 5 cents per mile. Since I really would spend the money...my view is 11,000 miles for $100 is well worth it. Thus, based on what you would do, it may or may not be worth it. P.S. I wish it had a higher cap. I maxed it out in three weeks...

I am hopeful that we will get an improved Extra Mile next year. I am guessing that CO hasn't gotten the response it wanted, since CO extended the sign-up period by a month. If that is the case, maybe next year, CO will sweeten the offer to 15K or 20K. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking.

CO offers the "extra mile" to gold elites for only $75 - with NO mileage cap.
So in my case, $75 gets me (if my travels next year match the previous 10 years on average) at least 25,000 bonus miles - or no more than $.003 per mile (most likely less than that)... for me this is a no brainer (at least 25,000 for $75)
However, I personally would NEVER pay more than $.01/mile - so for some people, the $100 for maximum of 10,000 is not such a great deal if you're not certain that you'll achieve 20,000 status miles.

I just called CO to confirm this. They said it's the same for everyone -- both the lower fee and lack of a cap were an unfounded rumor. Where did you get this information from?

. I found that their onepass home page links to to the extra mile promotion via HTTP, while the FF newsletter links to it via HTTPS. So while it's possible to register securely, it's also easy not to do it that way. Thanks for the pointer.
