Here is an interesting scenario though - assume a silver leaving on a 1205am redeye. The EUA would run at midnight in timezone of departure, but you can actually upgrade yourself using the gate standby procedure in advance of that time.

Hypothetical of course, but curious how EUA is set up for this?

Thanks for correcting the misinformation, and by the way, I like straightforward responses, just as you posted. There was no negative tone.

Given the good examples, I wonder why CO doesn't run it EUA like NW does, at about 5pm"ish" the night before? Seems like this would solve the 12am departures. Who knows?

Update on my situation:

When I checked in for my flight yesterday I entered the P-Club in SFO and told the rep. I had had a problem with the upgrade for my return. In a span of 30 seconds she saw that there were still available F seats on my ORD->IAH leg and upgraded me immediately. Apparently she had not received the missive that each of the three supervisors at the CO 800# referenced. Go P-Club.

As was pointed out, I don't think Joe Six-Pack is going to have much sympathy for this scenario. But I hope we all realize that it's not too much to ask for consistency and fairness.

Hey, I'm not an Elite on CO by a long shot and I wholeheartedly sympathize with all you guys over this. The way I see it, it's not a matter of consistency and fairness at all. It's a matter of enforcing your own rules. If the rules state you are entitled to an upgrade under specific circumstances and your technology is flawed, that's why there are overrides.

Now what is *not* fair, the way I see it, is that you have to pay a membership (i.e., PC) in order to have access to an employee who is empowered to administer the override.

Just got manually upgraded this morning. Flight showed A9 F9 as of 7:30am for an 11:30 am flight. Called elite line and they couldn't understand why no one was upgraded. Oh well. That's the fifth time now I was passed over by the EUA and managed to get the upgrade anyway. The elite operator indicated she thought they might have been "over hauling" the system last night. We both laughed.
