Silver Elite?

On my next Continental trip, I will have enough miles to be Silver Elite.

I have a couple of questions, that I couldn't find easily on their web site:

1) The 2001 Elite status begins I assume when 2000 ends (March 1), but do I get my Silver Elite credentials then, or do they mail them out as people qualify
2) Do you get any goodies with reaching status (free drink/headset coupons, luggage tags, etc..)
3) For 2002, I'd like to reach Gold Elite (it seems you never get upgraded at Silver under the new policy). Do your elite bonus miles (50% for silver) count towards elite status?

Thanks in advance for your knowledgeable responses.

dguruswamy,

Welcome to FT.

The 2001 Elite Year runs from 03/01/2001 thru 02/28/2002.

But, your status as silver will commence with the flight after your status updates (Usually 2-3 days after the qualifying flight).

I would say that they will send you a 2000 packet, this "Should" include the priority luggage tags (Hold the laughter), your suitcase tag and whatever Drink/Headset coupons Silver got.

Elite Mileage Bonus miles do NOT count towards elite status. But, PAID class of service bonus miles do. That means that paid F/C or B/F segments will get you an elite qualifying bonus, upgraded F/C and B/F segments will not.

Your elite status should start right away, before the end of the year.

You'll receieve some luggage tags, a neat leather passport case and a rule book of sorts.

Elite bonus miles do not count toward elite status, but they are good for reward travel and upgrades.

The program sure isn't what it was a few months ago. Best of luck with it.

Elites get a leather passport case? Since when? I've been Elite (G and S) and have never gotten that with my packet...or is that new?

For 2000, us Silver Elites got:
- plastic priority handling luggage tags.
- misc. rental car discount offers.
- Elite handbook.
- 50% mileage bonus on paid fares. Bonus miles do not count towards Elite status.

No leather wallet, no metal luggage tags, no drink/headset coupons went to Silvers. We are but one level above "grunt", graced with early boarding somewhere between First Class passengers and Grandma.

When Elite status is attained, it is good through February 2 calendar years later. Someone who makes it today will have status through February, 2002.

My bad folks. I did not get the leather passport case with the elite status. I did get the leather case when I signed up for a "prestige pack" they offered for about $100. It included coupons for segment upgrades, President's Club visits and rental car discounts. Of course, I got elite status a month or so after the coupn book arrived and only ever used one or two coupons. They were non-transferable, so I couldn't even use them to upgrade my wife (well, at least not more than once ). The leather case was the only worthwhile part of the whole thing.

I find it handy to use my leather-like (ok, blue cardboard) Elite ticket holder to keep coupons and MCOs in one place.

I had the same dilema about useless Exec Pack upgrade certs once I qualified for Gold. IMO, though, the 7500 miles was _THE_ thing that made it worth the $$$.

Yeah, LouCap, the miles, isn't that what it's all about.

I'm bummed that no PC passes or drink coupons are supposed to come with my elite pack. Of course, I'm still waiting for it. Made Silver on Nov. 15, those flights posted a few days later. Oh well.

I'm pleased to report that the information earlier on this thread was wrong. My 2000 Silver packet came today, and it did include 2 PC passes, as well as the baggage tags, elite guide, partner offers and PC application (with the outdated prices -- hmm).

Now a new question: When I get my 2001 Elite card and guide in the mail in February, will it have 2 more PC passes? One can hope ...
