Seat Codes - Upgrading

Which is the code for seats available to upgrade on a coach (discounted) fare using FF miles?

Continental has put me on a "waitlist." The outbound was no problem getting the upgrade confirmed, while the return they tell me is not available, not now anyways. Funny thing is, the aircraft are exactly the same for each leg, and as of today, so are the number of seats taken in F in the seat map. How can that be?

Any help or suggestion is greatly appreciated.

The airlines allot a different number of upgradeable seats depending on demand from higher fare-paying passengers. A 6:00 a.m. flight on a weekday is much more likely to have high fare paying or elite FFs than a 6:00 a.m. flight on a Saturday or a Sunday. So in your situation, it depends on the route and the flight times.

The class of service for upgradeable F/C Seats is F.

As Sheryl stated, each individual flight is treated as a seperate entity by yield management. The theory is that they hold back enough F/C seats for sale based upon past experience for that day/date.

LLZ, check the seat mapper on ITN if you have not already done so. If you are not sure about ITN, do a search for it on this forum. There is a lot of discussion on it. For CO A & D are paid seats available and F are upgradeable seats (i.e. the seats that you are looking for).

Good luck,
TCrazy

Thanks for your help Travelcrazy. Checking ITN with the advanced options gives the following:

1st flight A9 D8 F0 with seat map showing 9 out of 10 available

2nd flight A9 D8 F0 with seat map showing 15 out of 24 available.

So if things work out for me, some of those A and D seats will be switched over to F to allow me to use my hard-earned miles???

Anyway a sympathetic agent in OnePass could go ahead and release one for me? Has anyone ever been in this situation before...what was the outcome?

Thanks for any help.

In your first post, you said the aircraft were the same for each flight. From your most recent post, it does not appear that way.

What is the route you are asking about, the date and time of your flight?

The agent will not be able to reclassify a seat in order to upgrade you.

They are the same on each leg i.e. FLL-IAH and back 757-200, IAH-TUL and back 737-500.

I have the upgrade confirmed for the outbound, the return is on 12/26 CO 1250 and 1535.

I mean if I HAVE TO GO TO TULSA (my honey's family) for Christmas, I think I should at least be able to go 1st ;p

That is true for elites upgrading based on their FF status only. I do not think any seat classified as F can be used to upgrade solely by using miles which is what LLZ is asking. Please clarify.

LLZ, there was no indication from your original post that your flights are multi-segmented. I assumed when you said the aircraft are the same that you meant you had a non-stop in each direction and the aircraft were the same. From your later post, I see that each direction is two segments. 12/26 will be a very busy travel day. I would not be surprised if no seats become available in F on the IAH-FLL leg. Way too early to tell at this point.

Sheryl,

I am correct. CO has three classes of service for domestic F/C.

A: Paid F/C or Elite Upgrade on a PAID Y fare.

D: I have been told that this is the F/C segment of an international itinerary.

F: Upgradeable F/C seats. These seats may be taken using miles, or they can be used for elite upgrades.

There is also E class. This does not show on ITN. This is the class of service for a free F/C Reward Seat.

In terms of domestic flights, this is entirely incorrect. Mileage upgrades come from the F bucket, and only from the F bucket.

What is a free F/C Reward Seat; i.e., how does one qualify?

Thats like, you know, when you "buy" a ticket with your frequent flyer miles, for example for 40,000 miles will get you a domestic off-peak round trip F/C ticket, (if E class is available)

True, but the situation in F has held steady as it is now for over a month now so I'll keep my fingers crossed....I am dying to try the tri-color pasta (will it be red and green and gold for Christmas?) Hehe.
