Attaining Elite Status

I am going to fall a few miles short (1100) of Silver elite status before 12/31/00. Are there any ways to get to silver elite without flying a short trip just for the miles?

Thanks

I would just look for a really cheap R/T. Even an extremely short trip will gain you 500 miles each way, and they'll give you a break if you're only 100 away. But I can't see them "topping off" for 1100 miles.

Unless there's a trick I don't know, you can't qualify for Elite with anything but flight miles.

GoUHCoogs: Welcome to FlyerTalk!!

I second Paulo: you have to board a plane to earn status miles.

From Houston, remember the "Hobby hop": add HOU-IAH (or EFD-IAH) segments onto any IAH CO flight for free.

It looks like you can fly to San Antonio, Austin, Corpus Christi, or Harlingen for $92RT with 7 days AP and 1 night stay, or $132 RT with 14 days advance and no min. stay. Dallas is $106 with an overnight, and $128 without. New Orleans is a few bucks more.

I suppose if you _really_ couldn't leave town, you could buy a one way Hobby-IAH-AUS/DFW/SAT $66 one way with 14 days notice, fly HOU-IAH, then give your IAH-AUS/DFW/SAT boarding pass to someone. That would put you 100 miles away, and you'd never leave town, really.

Good luck!
