Comping elite status
Today I received in the mail an unsolicited "trial Northwest Airlines Silver Elite" card, valid from Nov 1 2000 to Feb 28 2001. It doesn't say where they got my name from, but just says "because you're a frequent flyer..." Also, I can qualify for Silver Elite by flying 2 roundtrips before Feb 28 2001, or for Gold Elite by flying 5 roundtrips, on NW or partner airlines.
I'm currently a CO Gold Elite, so I have no interest in this offer, but I bring it up here since NW mailing out unsolicited Silver Elite cards is bound to affect our ability to get upgrades on NW, and perhaps to some lesser extent, on CO.
Also, I wonder the criteria they used to send me the offer as a "frequent flyer." For various reasons, I know it's not from any credit cards I have, and I seriously doubt that they could buy FF lists from other airlines. The best guess I can come up with is from my subscription to the OAG.
Anyone else get one of these?

I recevied that offer today as well. I am a Continental Platinum. So far I have received the offer from Northwest and a similar one from Delta.

I received the same letter and offer in the mail last week from NW. The letter said that the offer came from the Hilton Honors program. However I am also Silver status on both US and CO so that may have been a factor as well.
