Just make sure that you get CO metal on your trip to HI. I think that is all there is from IAH is CO, but SFO and LAX are primarily NW metal with CO Codeshare numbers.

In general, check the metal before you fly anywhere!

My wife and I relocated to Chicago from Houston. We have been able to maintain CO OP status by leveraging connections in Detroit & Memphis on NW. Although you have to put up with NW's crap. I don't mind MEM but hate DTW.

My wife is Platinum. She's flies ORD-EWR or ORD-IAH 3-4 times a month. When going to EWR she usually flies NW via Detroit to get 4 segments roundtrip. Platinum came easy doing that over & over. She usually flies ORD-IAH direct on CO. Her business trips are East or Gulf Coast so CO works for her. She also goes to Europe periodically and the new CLE to LGW services works great.

I'm Silver but only because my business trips are all over the place and sometimes CO can't get me from here to there without a lot of pain so I'm forced onto DL or AA. (I've sworn off UA completely!). CLE doesn't have good West Coast flights as someone mentioned earlier I believe.

Bottom line, if you are willing to use NW hubs in MPS, DTW or MEM you can really rack up segments on CO to get higher status. It works for us.

ORD_CO_Flyer: Welcome to flyertalk!

Thanks for the info. I am also wondering how NW's MSP-HNL service/comfort is in F. They regularly run sales with our travel agent for F seats, sometimes not much more than UA's coach seats.

As a Silver how often do you get upgrades on CO? Also, do you find it better to fly out of ORD or MDW?

Thanks for the warm welcome

I can't comment on NW's MSP-HNL. We got married in Hawaii this past June and used AA FC reward seats (booked thru US Air w/AMEX miles) for ORD-OGG and HNL-ORD. I was very happy with AA's FC.

As a silver I get upgraded to FC about 95% of the time. This year I've only missed 3 or 4--and one time the CO agent at EWR upgraded his friend over me illegally and got caught (CO gave me a free ticket and free upgrade cert). I only fly ORD as I live west of ORD. MDW too far away.
