Another Intern. Upgrade rule?
Ah, duh, I think I missed something here. All along I've been hearing that ELites do not qualify for BusinessFirst upgrades, which I can understand. But has it always been the case that you can, for a reasonably low fee, buy your way on?
My May OnePass statement (yes I'm behind because of that trip to CNS) states
"As an Elite member, you can upgrade a published Coach Class fare to BusinessFirst within 24 hours of your flight ..." Details indicate this could cost $275 or so one-way.
OK, now:
1) Has this always been the case?
2) What exactly is a "published Coach Class fare"?
3) Their example was a $50 savins on HNL or EWR to HNL. Can you do this (without the $50 savings) on any BF flight??

That rule applies only to BF Hawaii service no South America,Europe, or Asia revenue upgrades but seats are usually very limited 24 hours prior. A published fare is basically a non bulk, non group, non bartered, etc fare.....

OK, where has this special rule (pay for upgrade to HNL) ever been printed or announced?

I have never used BF to HI cause I use TWA and get a 548 fare and u/g on elite card to first but a friend told me about the IAH-HNL and EWR-HNL rule that he used it last month...I have no clue where it is written but a CO agent is probably aware of it.

I know the rule has been in effect for at least three years. When I took the family from EWR-LAX-HNL, the agent said that they were not doing Elite upgrades to HNL any more.
