In the upgrade holding pattern...
22 seats open in F as of this writing, a day and a half before EWR-IAH...
Elite line rep 1: "Those revenue seats are being held until 2 hours prior to departure."
Elite line rep 2: "Those revenue seats could open up at any time; probably in the morning... call back then..."
All hail capacity controls! (After all, it's only 22 seats at full F...)
And then, apparently, NW is sending out comps to Elite Plat, completely gratis, no flights, no credit card, no fees, nada...

Is this the 777 flight. I think they do this everytime. Apparently someone in revenue control thinks that there will be a huge news event occuring somewhere in the Southwest that only newscasters from NY can cover.
Had the same situation a couple of months ago and we flew with empty seats.

Another reason they may hold the seats in First Class is that they tend to switch aircraft type on this route. If it's a 777, they may substitute a DC-10 which of course has less First Class seats.

It was a BusinessFirst DC-10.
Despite the waiting in uncertainty, a slew of upgrades (including mine) came through following general boarding.
It appears, following anecdotal experience, that Elite upgrades for many BusinessFirst flights occur after boarding.
