What is the best way to get upgraded without using miles or elite status?

The absolute best way is to pay for the upgrade (ie: buy a 1st class or business class ticket). It is gauranteed....!

Seriously - you don't have much luck otherwise if you are not using miles or on elite status.

If you are Elite, buy a 'Y' fare.

On CO, if you are not elite, you can also purchase a YONEPASS fare if it is offered in the market you are flying in. I don't know if it is offered in all markets, but I have seen it offered in many. Basically, it is a full fare coach ticket that is booked in A class at ticketing. You only need to be a onepass member, but not necessarily elite. On the HP side of things, I believe there is a YUP fare that you can also purchase that works the same way.

The best way is simple-- buy the Continental Airlines OnePass "PRESTIGE PACK." It's $99 and pays for itself many times over.

It includes:

1) 6 segment upgrades (space available)
2) 2 CO President's Club passes
3) CO & CO Vacations discounts
4) $99 Companion Cert
5) 7,500 bonus miles
6) Much, much more!
