Wings Alliance

Has anyone heard if any progress had been made with the Wings Alliance yet?

Wings is the provisional name for the alliance CO is trying to build with Virgin, Northwest, Alitalia and KLM.

My understanding is that todate Virgin have not held formal discussions with CO, although RB is on record as having said he believes an alliance is necessary.

I just wondered if anyone had heard anymore. I havn't heard of any progress since late November.

As an aside and slightly off-topic, I have also heard that SwissAir is in advance discussions about joining OneWorld.

An announcement is expected after Iberia joining is announced.

Swissair joining OneWorld would, egoistically, help me a lot.

And chances to find me aboard sitting aside merryflyer on BA would increase dramatically.

Rudi - I think that Swissair would be a very welcome addition to the oneworld alliance. Before moving to the US I flew with Swissair regularly (and they brought us here) - roughly one Swissair flight every month for me/my partner. It would have been great if I could have put those miles into my BA account. And I would have felt less guilty about using (cheaper) Swissair for my LHR-Geneva flights, instead of BA!

baobab, I'm intrigued. Are there price differences in Europe between carriers which offer like services (i.e. Swissair/BA from GVA/LHR) to a greater degree than in the US (or is it just a capacity control issue that you happen to be able to find cheaper fare levels on one than the other). In the US it is rare to find fare differences (again, other than capacity control issues) between carriers offering like services.

US is one state - europe is .... states (in these last ten years so many more, I don't know anymore ...).

Already currencies vary - so do local prices (a volkswagen costs about 30% more in Switzerland than in Italy - and in Italy more than in manufacturing Germany).
