Using CO miles to upgrade a NW int'l ticket, do you still have to pay fees based upon fare class?

You betcha. Look for that term "equivalent" that throws NW's fares into the mix as far as fees for mileage upgrades on discount fares.

There aren't any fees associated with NW International mileage upgrades. The kicker is that you can only upgrade Y or B fares (or M in some markets) which are equivalent to CO's Y and H fares. There is no provision for upgrading lower-priced fares on NW using miles with an additional fee.
