Open Jaws

I'm trying to find out if CO let's you book open jaws as award tickets something say like MIA-CAI; HKG-MIA. I've searched and the only thing I found is that one segement has to be shorter or equal to the other. Not quite sure what all that means. Any help would be apprecaited.

I've done it many times, although you can't book open jaws on the Web. Just finished a nightmarish booking of EWR-NRT-SHA; NRT-GUM-HNL (stop-over); HNL-EWR. Several CO screw-ups along the way convinced them to make nice and wave a black-out date and snag standard BF seats for me out of inventory. Best use of 120K miles I could think of.

Yeah, but I don't think you can combine different reward types...your example would be a US-Africa/ME on the outbound and Asia-US on the return. Don't think that'll work. The routing the OP posted would just be a US-Asia reward.

Just finished booking ....

Wanted to take advantage of the 35,000 south South America reward before it goes up to 50,000 at midnight as well as extra two days over Thanksgiving.

Well both Rio and Buenos Aires didn't have the dates - ya, I know, that's what you get for procrastinating

Anyways, then it hit me: Santiago de Chile, and a quick flight to EZE, which in the end turned into open jaws plus a stopover in Panama on the way back (would have been a forced overnight, so I thought may as well spend the day as well).

So, the itenerary on the last day of 35,000 mile reward :

IAH-PTY-SCL EZE-PTY-IAH ^ ^ ^

And if there's anyone out there with a suggestion for a way to fly to Tierra del Fuego instead of direct SCL-EZE, (as Ross Perot said) I'm all ears . Sorry, elections and all that, just had to throw that in.

And a BIG thank you to yalie25 for posting this :-: ENHANCEMENT :-: to the CO program and Viagero Joven (I'm pretty sure that's right, sorry if I got the wrong person) with very helpful suggestions about booking reward travel.

Should be nice in Rio that time of the year, not too hot, but Buenos Aires will still be a little cool.

Panama, of course, is always hot, much like the Gulf Coast this time of the year.

BTW, are you doing this as a MR? Otherwise why go through CLE (lax-cle-iah-rio )? There were non-stop flight between LAX and IAH last I checked

If you're doing this using reward miles, the amount goes up as of midnight tonight CDST.

Are you saying that I actually have to ticket the reservation by midnight to save some nOnepass miles?

That's what the agent told me on the phone.

Also any changes after the fact will "reflect the new award."

Tried to take Viajero Joven's advice and book a stopover in Houston (on the way back) with continuation to Canada, but besides the fact that they could not find seats, they also told me that I'd basically have to fork over an additional 15,000 miles once I changed the departure date.
