30 mins for connection?

Is this enough time. I just got revised itinerary from CO and it has me arriving EWR 10:45 AM (from BDL) and leaving for LAS 11:15 AM. This doesn't allow much time obviously. Anyone have experience with this tight a connection? Thanks

Matt

Honestly depends on EWR traffic conditions at the time. I've had situations where I fly into EWR and land ahead of schedule, other times we're circling for half an hour waiting. If I were you, I'd look to see what's the next departing flight to LAS from EWR. Having flown with Continental EWR to LAS, there are quite a few as I remember. You may want to see if they (Continental) would be willing to change your flight.

So, after all that, I'd say: Can you make the connection in 30 minutes? Iffy.

I schedule a minimum 1-hour layover for domestic flights and 2 hours for international- I don't care what the airlines' computers allow. It's also possible that you fly into one EWR terminal and leave from another- last I was there (a year ago) CO Operated out of 2 terminals. At the time, only flights to a few cities left out of Termonal A and LAS wasn't one of them but that may have changed.

Definitely get them to re-accommodate you.

Exclamation Online booking

It's doable and will be just fine IF everything runs on time. With that said, have them change it if you don't like it. Just explain you got a schedule change notice, and your connection isnow very tight, and you're not comfortable with it.

Best bet is to pick another flight/route BDL-EWR/IAH/CLE-LAS that better suits you, and suggest it to the agent.

Note, the changed segments will NOT post as online booked. You will need to call after the fact when your miles post to have your EQM adjusted. So long as one of your segments remains unchanged, your online booking bonus will post off that itinerary.

btw, with CO's asinine policy of closing the door up to 10 minutes early, even at hub cities, 10:45 - 11:15 makes a 20-minute connection in my opinion.

CO says that the minimum legal connection time at EWR is 30 minutes but I, too, think that's pushing it a bit. FYI the flights quoted above should both be in terminal C so switching terminals is not an issue here.

I agree that it can be tight, but is doable. I've flown EWR-BDL and depending upon time of day, weather etc, it ususally arrives in early (I think the flying time is clocked at 27 minutes or less) and they allow over an hour. Also you'll be arriving & departing from Terminal C--you now just want to check which gate your flight generally arrives at and which one your flight to LAS leaves from. In any event, there are multiple flights to LAS from EWR daily, and if CO's booked you on this route, and you miss your connection, they will be responsible to get you on another flight out.

True, but CO would only be responsible for incidental expenses if the delay was the fault of CO. If it's weather or ATC (the most common of the delays), they'll still rebook the pax, but they're off the hook for providing meals/lodging if the pax can't get out that day.

30 min is not enough time for a connection in EWR...particularly if you want your bags to go with you.

You need at least 1 hour in order to allow enough time for a CO EWR employee to be rude to you at least once.

Generally bags can connect faster than people. I only check bags IF I have a tight connection and don't want to lug them around with me.

Plus, the airline generally has a higher liability for misconnected bags than for misconnected people, so they often pay more attention to bags misconnecting. If you misconnect, the cost to the airline is a seat on the next flight ($0 so long as there is an empty seat). If a bag misconnects without you, their obligation is to get it to your final destination (home/hotel), which costs them real cash in handling and delivery costs.

Thank you all for your replys. We just rebooked to 7:04 AM for the BDL-EWR segment. We will have to hang out at EWR for a few hours but I guess that's better than waiting till the afternoon. We have PC passes so the wait won't be so bad.
Next question: What time do they open the bar at the PC in EWR? Is there a better PC than another at that airport? We have time to search.
Thanks again,

Matt

CO operates all Atlanta, Chicago (O'Hare and Midway), and Dallas flights out of Terminal A. Everything is else is in C.
