SWU redemption

I know this has probably been discussed before but I couldn't find the thread. I want to travel phx-lhr in mid to late february. I clicked on the "one pass reward upgrade" during my search and I found some availaiblity. This is what it summarizes:

Review Trip Itinerary Taxes/Fees
Fuel Surcharge $412.00
U.S. Federal Transportation Tax $16.30
September 11th Security Fee $7.50
U.S. Passenger Facility Charge $10.50
U.S. APHIS User Fee $5.00
U.S. Immigration User Fee $7.00
U.S. Customs User Fee $5.50
U.K. Air Passenger Duty $93.00
U.K. Passenger Service Charge $47.50
U.S. Federal Transportation Tax $16.30

Certain taxes/fees list above are included in the originally quoted price.

1 Adults (age 18 to 64) $635.00

1 Upgrade Reward(s) 40,000 Miles

Additional Taxes/Fees $208.60

Reward Upgrade Service Fee $1,100.00

Airport Passenger Duty $61.00

Total Price 40,000 Miles and $2,004.60

How do I redeem SWU's so I can avoid the $1100 and 40K miles?

Thanks in advance.

You can redeem the SWU after ticketing the reservation by going to the Upgrade Reservation link and use your SWU. Alternatively, you can call and book the reservation and have the agent apply the SWU if you don't want to risk losing availability during the ticketing process (which can sometimes take a few hours).

Yes, if you click on "OnePass Reward Upgrade" it is going to attempt to charge you all of that. Simply book as you would a normal Economy class ticket (no upgrade option checked) and then you can upgrade afterward, either online or by calling.
