227 EQMs

...is all I need to make Plat.
What's the easiest (that doesn't always mean cheapest) way to get them?

I'm UK (MAN) based, so I doubt there's many cheap MRs from here.
Could I do the 'trick' of booking a short/cheap flight, buy up the EQMs online, then cancel the tickets?

Or perhaps another method to get that measly amount?!

Book a fare that's as close to 227 (or slightly over) miles as a one-way Y fare. After it tickets, purchase the EQMs. Once the EQMs post, cancel the ticket.

Good advice. 300 EQM's will cost you about $27 and take you about 5 minutes on the computer.

FYI (maybe it was only me), as an Elite, you have to buy a minimum of 500 EQMs on Elite Maximizer.

regardless, that's the best way to top off. Not worth running off to somewhere.

LH, LX and the other European carriers are a minefield of zero-earning fare classes.

It's certainly possible to get a good deal (<6cpm) but it requires some patience with ITA Matrix.

Thanks for the advice, guys - one quick Y-fare, elite maximiser and a refund later - and overnight I find I'm Plat for a grand total of $45. Superb.

Now to decide if it's worth an MR on top of the rest of my booked travel for the year to make 1K....

How close?

So I was right about the Elite Maximizer for Elites. Good to know it's corroborated now.

I've got about 8K booked, possibly another 4K on the cards.
With the 3.5K I'll be flying on Dec 30th, it'll leave me about 10K shy of 100K at the very end of the year.

This year has been my first 'major' travel year, and I don't see it stopping next year, so I'm leaning towards at least the SWUs being worth the run.
Any thoughts?

10K will cost $900 on Elite Maximizer. That would be too much for me, but it might be hard to find something for $500 to $600 on an MR for 10K.

Why did you just purchase EQMs if you had these travel plans booked to cross Platinum level anyways??

Posts from years gone by suggest CO will grant the status when you are a little short, but do you really want to risk it
