Merger Question

Checking flight schedules for next June I still see CO flights and UA flights operating in the same markets. I thought by June 2012 the merger was suppose to be complete, no more CO. Maybe this is the way the schedules are loaded and they will be changed. What is the final timeline for the merger.

I don't think they've announced any specific dates. Part of it is that it will take as long as it takes to meet FAA requirements to operate under single certificate. I've noticed what you noticed about continuing ability to book flights under CO flight numbers well into next year. I think that with the alignment of flight numbers and booking classes between the two carriers, it will be a simple matter to handle this: when they announce the date of the last CO flight, all flights past that date (and tickets for those flights) with a CO flight number will be converted to UA flights with the same number and booking class. In cases where there's currently a CO codeshare on a UA flight, the flight numbers are the same, so the CO codeshare will simply go away. In cases where there's a flight operated by CO metal, both the metal and the flight will convert to UA on the first day of consolidated operation.
