Current Continental Elite Maximizer rate?

EDIT: Nevermind. Just checked it out myself... now waiting to cancel the reservation and keep the EQMs.

Current price was 7 cpm for the EQMs including the underlying RDMs. Not flying at all will be even better for me on this one, as I've got the 1k-crossing xmas trip to the folks as well. Used an SFO to SJU roundtrip via ewr & iad to grab 16+k eqms without the flight itself.

------------------------------------------------------------

Anyone have a recent data point? Can you break it into cpm for the RDM and cpm for the added EQM?

And am I correct in thinking that these EQMs are just like any other, no weird restrictions, and that the offer is usually for 2x the flown miles?

Looking at 21k eqms needed for 1k, thinking about a 7k+ trip, might book CO if I can essentially triple the eqms for something reasonable.

(Note: I am not really a true MR type. I tend to pick international places on a low fare, and throw in 2 nights at a nice-ish hotel, so this maximizer thing appeals to me more than it would to a domestic same-day turn type.)

Thanks

I think it is 3 cents per RDM and an additional 4 to 4.5 cents per EQM right now (apparently goes up towards the end of the year). You have to buy the RDMs to get the EQMs though, so you'll be spending 7-7.5 cents per EQM.

I believe I've read (not positive and these numbers are not exact) that the rate is about 7.5 cents per EQM on domestic flights and about 7.0 cents per EQM for international flights, so if you're looking at getting a sizeable number of EQM, you might want to try pricing out the maximizer on different itineraries.

Just purchased one for an international booking, and it was indeed 7 cpm.

The RDM for international flights is 2.5 cents/mile vs. 3 cents/mile for domestic flights.

They really go up.
On December 29th last year, I paid 33 cents/mile (RDM+EQM).
(I was ~250 miles shy of making Platinum.)

Seems CO would do better just to sell the EQM... at 7cpEQM, $70 for 1000 EQM.

$7000 for 1K :)

I bet there are some folks out there that would pay that amount for 1K. Wonder if it'd be worth it to UA/CO... pure profit with little cost, assuming only a handful of folks took advantage of it.

This might be a good route for those needing to bump up their EQMs for MM status.

Just for fun I checked the rate for an international itinerary I have in December. It was 20,000 EQMs for $940 or ~4.5cpm. Not bad.

I don't believe the EQMs bought using the MIleage Max will count toward MM status.

Also if, as a recent poster observed, CO/UA sold 1K for $7000 they'd have a captive market.

Incorrect. They certainly do count right now and will merge into Mileage Plus next year.

Going forward, in MP -- purchased miles will not count towards MM status.

Has it been confirmed that even if you cancel the reservatin you can keep the Elite Maximizer EQMs you paid for?

Do the EQMs have to post first? (If so, would need to post within the 24h cancel window, or would need to be a refundable ticket, right?)

Your EQMs will stay and usually post within about 30 minutes to an hour after purchase. You can purchase a refundable ticket or non-refundable within the 24 hour window.

Why is this not a good deal?
If one is a MM and designates thier spouse for status AND buys the 100K EQM in January 2012, it means 1K status for 2 people for 2 years (thru January 2014) or ~$1,750 per person per year.

You still need to fly to take advantage of the benefits but, I would seriously consider this........................................

Add in the 6 SWUs, 4 CR-1s, etc., and it gets interesting.
