OnePass Plus Email Update
Got the following email from OnePass Plus:
Most of the announcements in the email were already mentioned by UA Insider, so I didn't bother including them. But now I guess it's official that miles will expire, unlike the current OP. I believe the MP rules are that any activity within 18 months, even booking reward flights, purchases from the MP mall... extend the life of the miles an additional 18 months, so not terrible, but still annoying.
Losing the travel discounts means nothing, considering they were basically worthless when flying to/from the hubs, and even when not, they were so hard to use.
The last change I don't quite get. What exactly is changing, and what's the connection to elites?
Dear joshwex90,
An important result of the merger between Continental and United is the introduction of new and enhanced Continental Airlines Credit Card benefits to enjoy across both airlines.
These new and enhanced benefits are available now, except where noted, and include:
Miles don't expire. Beginning January 1, 2012, this benefit will be exclusive to Cardmembers.*
Two additional changes to note:
Travel Discount Certificates will no longer be offered on your Cardmember anniversary. If you became a Cardmember before August 2011, you'll still receive certificates on your first anniversary.
The free checked bag benefit will apply to you and one additional person traveling on your reservation effective January 1, 2012. This change does not apply to OnePass Elite members.
Thank you for being a loyal Cardmember and Continental Customer.
*Your miles will not expire as long as there is activity on your credit card account, including paying your annual membership fee, and the credit card account is open and not in default. Upon cancellation of your credit card account your miles will expire according to the MileagePlus Program Rules.

Free bags is a benefit for elites or if you carry the card. For elites it applies to everyone on the PNR, I believe, while for CC folk it is only one other person.

As a cardholder, did up to 8 others also get their first bag free? Is that now changing to just 1 other person?

Is my understanding of this "enhancement" correct : "Beginning January 1, 2012 the OP miles don't expire benefit will be exclusive to cardmembers" which means you must retain the OnePass Plus card & pay the annual fee or you'll lose all your OnePass Miles?

no -- you loose your miles if you become inactive on your MP account. (I believe current rules state that you can loose your miles if you don't touch your MP account for 18 months -- not sure what the new rules will be). We should find out at the end of the month when they release the details of the new program.
