How was the LAX-BKK trip? I'm not looking forward to spending 16 hours on a plane (even though it's in C).

Honestly, I prefer these ultra long-haul flights, especially when they leave at a time like this.

At 11:30 p.m., I'm already tired, get up in the air, have a meal, and I'm out an hour or two after departure. Sleep for a bit, and next thing you know you're waking up in time for breakfast or not too much before.

I recently did SAA's JNB-JFK nonstop, which had similar excellent timing (8:30 p.m. departure, dinner, and I'm out at a normal-ish bedtime). Other well-timed long flights are BKK-LAX (7:30 p.m. departure), and SFO/LAX-SYD (~11:00 p.m. departure), etc.

Compare that to say a 9-hour SFO-LHR flight leaving at 4:00 p.m. Unless you're sleep deprived from the night before, I find it difficult to fall asleep at that time of day, I end up staying up for 6-7 hours or so before getting tired, then snoozing for an hour or so just in time to be woken up for breakfast. Then I arrive in LHR all f'ed up.

If you haven't done it before, I think you may be surprised at how much easier this sort of well-timed ultra long-haul flight can be compared to a shorter or poorly timed flight.
