Special Meal Request and EUA

I know that technically, if you have a special meal request, you cannot get EUAd. 3 questions come to mind:
  1. Assuming, had I not had a special meal request, I'd get upgraded more than 24 hours out, and since a special meal request only requires 24 hours advance notice, could I still get upgraded?
  2. If a flight isn't supposed to be served an actual meal, then does the computer ignore the special meal request that's saved to my profile?
  3. Can I agree to forgo my special meal request in order to get the upgrade? If so, how?

Side question: now with the buy on board, are there any options for special meal eaters, other than bringing food from home?

There are no special meals on domestic F, so this will not play any role in your upgrade.

I have not seen special meal requests on domestic flights in some years?

There are still a few left from EWR - (from CO.com):

Special meals are available in First Class on the following routes:

Anchorage, AK (ANC) - This is a direct flight that stops in SEA each way. Special meals are available on the EWR-SEA and SEA-EWR segments.
Los Angeles, CA (LAX)
Orange County, CA (SNA)
Portland, OR (PDX)
San Diego, CA (SAN)
San Francisco, CA (SFO)
Seattle, WA (SEA)
Vancouver, BC (YVR)

I'd never heard that a special meal request would affect an upgrade. Is that documented somewhere?

A special meal request has zero bearing on an upgrade. You can either choose to eat the meal in F or not.

Not entirely true. I hadn't realized that they no longer had special meals for my destination. Regardless, before they discontinued that, people with a special meal request for a flight were not upgraded.

This is absolutely not true. It had zero impact on the upgrade.

iburkett is 100% correct.

An upgraded customer who requested a special meal prior to the upgrade would have the option of the standard meal in their upgraded class of service or the coach special meal catered.
