DirecTV on the bulkhead rows
Is it more difficult to see than in a regular seat?

It's farther away, so in that respect yes. Is it significantly harder to see? I think that all depends on your eyesight.

The monitor is mounted slightly higher than it would be in the seatback, so it's closer to eye level if you're tall.

I'm on a 737-800 CLE-SFO tomorrow equipped with directv. Just got upgraded to first row 1.

Is the directv located on the bulkhead or in the armrest?

But recommend moving to Row 2 or later. Can't watch DirecTV on takeoff landing and on the runways waiting to takeoff.

Connected to the bulkhead also means that the screens work all the time.

Not true. At least IME, the 738 (the one that features 16 F seats and 144 Y seats, starting with row 7...), has the DTV monitor for row 1 (and I believe row 7 also) mounted on the wall (or bulkhead if you prefer) in front of you. It is NOT in the armrest, and you CAN watch during takeoff and landing.

On the 752s and 772s, bulkhead IFE systems are mounted in BF and in the armrest in Y in the bulkhead and exit row.
On the 767s, all IFE systems in BF are in the armrest, and also in the armrest for ELR seats in Y.
While I'm at it...
737s with DTV, all TVs are mounted in the bulkhead.
753s (as well as some, still unconverted 737s) have overhead monitors.
