First UDU

So I missed status in '09 by a small number of miles and was too silly to do a MR. I made lowly CO *S in '10 and was happy to get my first UDU(s) today... as a silver... on an L fare, and through a hub. Got UGed on both tomorrow's PHX-IAH and IAH-BOS.

I love reading about all of the people here who fly much, much more than I do, but this was an interesting experience for me that I had to come post. I must say I was surprised I cleared on this route. So I'm 2/7 so far since Christmas now.

Congrats! Although as a fellow silver, may I suggest sticking to Saturdays or 6AM flights (excluding Monday and Thursday).

Yes, I may do that. Although I have a number of TATLs coming up where I had to stick to flights with tough UG odds. That's why I've made sure to book enough for *G this year and will determine if I should go for Plat.

Oddly enough (although perhaps not to others here), there were 7 people below me on the UG list. What is the explanation for that? Who could be lower than me on this ticket since CO doesn't UG *S companions?

I can think of three:

1) CO *S on an L fare who purchased a ticket after you
2) UA 2P on any fare
3) Non-revs

It would be "added to the list after" rather than purchased after for the list we see unless CO finally changed that, but I don't believe they have.

But for the EUA itself, it would be buy purchase date, right?

For example,

CO Silver 1 - Buys L fare on Jan 1
CO Silver 2 - Buys L fare on Feb 1
CO Silver 3 - Buys L fare on Mar 1

CO Silver 1 gets the last EUA at T-24. CO Silvers 2 and 3 will appear on the waitlist in some order depending on when they check-in, but both purchased their ticket after CO Silver 1.

Correct.

And not that it really matters but the OP got the EUA, not UDU, as it was CO-processed.

You're right. Still trying to get the last few pieces of shorthand down.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding you here, but if you're looking for an EAU on a TATL you're SOL--EAU's only clear on non-BF markets (i.e. domestic, northern S. America). Correct me if I'm wrong...

Yes, I should have made it more clear. I was referring to my flights from PHX to the hub; flights departing at semi-reasonable hours to EWR in most cases.

Ah yes....I have yet to get an EAU on the PHX to IAH leg at any reasonable hour. However, my UG cleared for IAH to PHX tonight! Guess I'll be passing you in the mini-terminal at Sky Harbor.

I'll be there bright and early for my 6:01am departure on Saturday. But, yes, my flights through IAH didn't UG last week, and even on int'l reward tix in J, there is sometimes not enough F inventory for the PHX-IAH seg.

Congrats!! I'm on a roll myself, so the system does work well for some of us. However, be prepared, some of the usUAl naysayers who will more than likely chime in soon to tell you how you've already beaten the odds and how bleak your UG chances will be going forward...don't believe them!
