this may be answered elsewhere, but I could not find it.
I am PM with Continental. Can I book a ticket on United.com (not through continental's website) and enter my membership number to be eligible for an upgrade, or can I only do that through the Co website?

Yes, you can. The upgrade will show as "pending" until you reach the UDU window for your status, and then change to either "waitlisted" or "confirmed".
