How do I do this?
OP Gold with 45,782 FF miles in OP account. Traveling with non elite DH with 15,260 FF miles in his OP account. When I try to upgrade with miles through my OP account it says I have insufficient miles (yeah, I know) and APPEARS to give me a choice to make up the difference (14,218 miles) from another OP account. When I input DH OP account info it gives me a message that DH OP account has insufficient miles. Apparently it has to take ALL the miles from a single OP account?
Upgrading DH one way through his OP account would cost me $150 (which is okay) but it won't let me upgrade only one passenger and he doesn't have enough miles to upgrade both of us.
If all else fails, I can just transfer the missing miles from my AMEX account but I wonder if there is any other option I'm missing. Maybe if I call and split the PNR?
