Does CO Micronesia still exist technically?
Hello everybody,
I'd like to know whether Continental Micronesia still exists (technically) with a separate AOC.
I find conflicting information:
As we all know, in the merger process, first Continental Micronesia's AOC and then United's will be merged into Continental's.
As per Wikipedia, "On December 22, 2010, the FAA approved the combination of Continental Micronesia (CMI) air carrier operations with CO air carrier operations under the single Part 121 operating certificate of CO" and "The callsign, ICAO and IATA codes were changed on December 22, 2010 to reflect the new operating certificate."
However, the FAA website still shows Continental Micronesia as active holder of AOC # MZZA964T, see here
http://av-info.faa.gov/detail.asp?DS...MICRONESIA+INC
The above link does not show any 767 operating for CO Mike.
So, the question is what actually happened on December 22? Was Continental Micronesia's AOC actually surrendered, thus ending the existence of Continental Micronesia as an airline, as the Wikipedia article suggests?
Or did the FAA simply give the green light for this to happen at a later stage at CO's convenience?
Thank you for your input.

on 12/14/10 i flew CS 1 (hnl-gum), and the ISM announced it as "Continental Micronesia". on 12/27/10 and 01/01/11, i flew CO 2 (gum-hnl) and CO 1 (hnl-gum) respectively and both ISM's announced it as "Continental Airlines".
don't know if that helps, but I recall in an interview a few months back here on GUM that Charles Duncan mentioned the exact same process you mentioned above, effective mid December 2010, IIRC. I think it's Continental Airlines here in Micronesia now.

Thts correct it's jus Continental Airlines now. As for the 767s not appearing on the former Air Mike certificate it's because those 767s rotated throughout the system, where the 737s flies routes into and out of GUM.

CMI indeed went away on the 22nd. Callsigns are now "Continental" and all operating procedures that were unique to CMI were essentially erased on that date. Our Operations Manual used to have several subsets of items for CMI (when we as CAL operated out there), but those procedures were all removed from our manuals on the 22nd..... I flew into NRT this week from GUM and the occasional controller was still referring to the flight as CMI 963, vice CAL 963, although we answered as CAL 963. Will probably take a bit of time.....
The next step, as you mentioned, will be to meld the Ops Specs (and procedures) of both CAL and UAL. That is expected to happen late in '11 at which point all of our flight numbers, callsigns, etc. will become "United".

So what's going on corporately with Air Mike the company? Is it still a functioning as a company or is every unit now part of Continental's respective division? Is dispatch still there? Has anything been announced internally? (Since I haven't heard anything from the Guam news media since Sep/Oct 2010.)

IMHO I think most of the old CO Mike structure will remain given the unique nature of flight operations out of Guam.
