Upgrade question...

I don't fly very much on CO, so this could be a simple question.

On Tuesday, I am flying PHX - CLE on #363 with Mrs. GNALUZU and our daughter. I am CO Gold, my wife is Silver and our daughter has no status. We are all in the same reservation.

As of today, first class is completely empty.

Is it possible for all three of us to be upgraded since two of us are elite? I'd rather not split up the revservations if possible. I seem to remember that companions can only be upgraded within 2 hours of the flight, but I don't know how things work with 3 people in a reservation.

The only way to do this is to split the reservation. Otherwise, none of you will be upgraded.

I'd split off your daughter. You and your wife will clear as silvers (your gold is demoted when with a silver). If two silvers clear, you have a good shot at upgrading your daughter as your gold companion at the airport. If that doesn't clear, sit in the back and wife/daughter up front. ^

However, before you do this, be sure and move your daughter to a seat that you will be comfortable with. You don't want to leave her in a middle seat and then that becomes your seat when you have your wife and daughter ride in F with you in your daughter's original seat.

Im assuming the daughter is a minor, right? I thought there was a rule against splitting a minor onto her own reservation?

I'd split all three... hit the upgrade list as a gold... companion upgrade the daughter with you and leave the wife to silver it out. The probability of a single silver clearing the list is remote let alone two.

Also, i'd give them a call to see if you can get any 15k mile upgrades... first for the Daughter then the wife.

Remember, seats unassigned do not reliably equal seats unsold.

Minors age 12 and above may travel unaccompanied on their own reservation.
