Status validity

(apologies if this has been discussed - my searches turned up nothing)

I qualified for CO Plat recently - my card, however, says valid through 2/11. Shouldn't my status be valid until the end of 2011 ?

D.

Not 100% sure but guessing you'll get a new card next year good through 2012.

Wouldn't it make more sense for them to send out cards with the correct expiry date in the first place ...

Elite cards are reissued on an annual basis. You'll get your 2011 card in February, which will have the 2/12 expiry date.

To ask a really stupid question, does that mean that the Elite card we just got is valid for the rest of 2010, all of 2011, and the first two months of 2012? We don't need to requalify next year to extend status past 2/11?

Your status is valid through the Feb 2012. If you didn't fly again from now until January 2012, then took a flight in February 2012, you'd still be Platinum for that flight.

The card is practically useless anyway except for recalling a reservation when using an airport kiosk.

Two different questions here. The card is valid through the expiry date printed on it.

If you qualify for status today you are getting status for the 2011 program year (3/2011-2/2012) and then you also get status from now until that program year starts.

Well, I wouldn't be Platinum, but I get the point.

Thanks to you and sbm for the clarification.

Actually, you would (will) be platinum through the end of February 2012.

If your next flight on CO is on February 28, 2012, you would still platinum through that day.
