So that's two flights that takes you across the country...but not really a true "transcon" (i.e., 2,000+ mile n/s). Thus, the sense of disbelief expressed.

Yes But

Yes they do happen But the cleared list also shows folks

that have chickened out & paid with cash or miles so that

is no confirmation of EUAs

Mystical

We have NO way of gauging the percentages

And the numbers are skewed by the folks

who chicken out (as Rev/Man counts on)

& pay with cash or miles ahead of EUAs

Not for me -- I own my company and watch the travel overhead. And it would be immoral for me to charge that cost bump through to my clients.

DL does?

Hey Bearx if you are taking 223 on wed beware !! there's a FAR, T in 3b :D

I guess it is all relative. I just got an email this morning for a 5-day EUA on a $120ish transcon r/t. That certainly doesn't happen every time but the inverse - that it never happens - also isn't true.

Route is DCA-ONT. L fare. Purchased May 25, 2010. I might be a bit off on the fare but it was pretty darn cheap. Yes, I'm flying Saturday morning, but the upgrade absolutely did happen.

Feel free to confirm by looking at co.com at the cleared list for DCA-IAH on Saturday.

Not everyone get every flight upgraded at 5 days out. Even all my EUAs this year haven't come at 5 days out. But it does still happen from time to time, probably more often than folks here on FT are willing to admit.

Ok...wait a MINUTE. You did NOT get u/g'd on a "transcon" as originally posted. Last time I checked IAH never EVER qualified as a transcon from any city. Talk about deception! :td:

Sorry...the fare was a transcon but the flight is not. I certainly didn't mean to mislead in that way. Still a 5-day EUA.

And on my last true transcon - EWR-SFO - I also got a EUA on a W fare but that was 36 hours out, not 5 days.

Would love to see ACTUAL verification of that 1

Perhaps it was some years back

I used to be upgraded regularly on EWR-SFO. Of course, that was back in 2002...back when there used to be a 762 on this route (ah, the good ole' days)...

It was August 6, 2010.

Do you really think that I get my rocks off by coming on to FlyerTalk and lying about my upgrades? Seriously?

- My most recent EUA was on SFO-EWR was Feb. 1, which cleared 48 hours early.
It was on a Monday - and I traveled on an L fare!!
- Another cleared 3 days early for travel 12/29/09 (E fare).
- My last EUA to clear 5 days out on this route was in August 2009 (G fare).

I have not traveled much on SFO-EWR recently. During the spring I stayed in Y once (W fare).... and was upgraded twice on M fares.
