On Upgrade standby list without checking in, HOW?

when using the Upgrade standby list on PDA, I have noted that you will not show up unless where checked in (or if you were upgraded before checking in as a Plat or Gold), that will show as upgraded. I didn't think it was possible to up on the upgrade list as standing by unless you were checked in.

Apparently this is not correct as an upcoming flight shows 5 already upgraded (these are Plat that got the 5 day upgrade) but is also shows 6 on the upgrade standby list but only one checked in.

Capacity: 16 | Booked: 10 | Checked In: 1

Ok of the ten already upgraded, five were EUA and the other 5 purchased tickets but>>>

How did the five (of the six listed) that are not checked in yet show up on the upgrade list when it says "* This list only includes upgrade-eligible customers that have checked in for this flight" .

Capacity: 16 | Booked: 10 | Checked In: 1

Customers Upgraded to First Class:
NAME SEAT
ELF, F. 3B
LOL, K. 1F
LOY, E. 2A
MCK, J. 4B
THO, M. 3E

1. HAL, K.
2. PRE, S.
3. BOW, H.
4. POH, C.
5. QUA, M.
6. ATT, T.

They might be connecting passengers who by virtue of their originating time zone or routing were able to check-in for the flight well before the 24h opening - or they could be nonrevs listed for the flight (check the standby list to see if the same names are showing up there).

The "checked in" number is the number of pax who've checked in who already hold confirmed seat assignments in F.

In the case you've referenced, 1 F pax has checked in. Several Y pax have checked in and have been added to the standby list.

Not sure that is correct. Before I checked in it said
Capacity: 16 | Booked: 10 | Checked In: 0
and there were five on the standby list

after I checked in and was added to the upgrade list it said:

Capacity: 16 | Booked: 10 | Checked In: 1
and there were six on the standby list (as shown on OP) myself and five others who apparentl;y are not checked in yet.

Now a few minutes latter, the standby upgrade list shows 7 pax (one more was added since OP) and the number checked in also incremented by one (the one added to the standby list) since it now says:
Capacity: 16 | Booked: 10 | Checked In: 2

Apparently the # checked in is the combnined total of the already upgraded and the ones placed on the stansby list> so the question is how do you get on the upgrade stansby list before checking in??

Apprently five of the seven now on the list did, how can I do it next time??

In this case I was a connecting PAX orignating in the swamp 205 east of the dungeon (IAH B-84) and when I checked in more that 24 hr before the flight I became the sole PAX who had checked in.

"or they could be nonrevs listed for the flight (check the standby list to see if the same names are showing up there)"
It should not be non-revs as several are higher on the list than a revenue PAX (and none were on the flight sb list)

You don't. The number "checked in" represents the number of people who have seats in FC by any means (EUA, purchase, miles, etc.) They just happened to be checking in or receiving EUAs (and are already checked in) as you've been watching this list change. When you checked in, the number 'checked in' did not change because you just checked in. In other words, that number 'checked in' doesn't include you, unless and until YOU get upgraded. You'll appear on the "upgrade standby list" until you get upgraded, THEN you'll move to the upgraded list and the 'checked in' count.
Did I clear it up or make it worse?

Nope, that's not right. If that were the case, the number of "checked in" pax would be enormous for some flights. The "checked in" number really is the number of pax with confirmed F seats who've checked in. Take, for example, CO 17 from EWR to LAX at 1:00 PM today (on a 739). Here's the info:

Capacity: 20
Booked: Full
Checked In: 14

This information will change frequently.

Ok I get it.
it was just a random coincidence that the upgrade list was incrementing at the same time as the check in count.

Now the upgrade list is growing faster than the upgrade count so that confirms what you said.

Thanks
