Losing Elite Status -- How does it work?

I am CO Platinum, but will most likely only have about 40K EQM this year.

Back when I was Platinum on DL, they had a rule that you couldn't drop from Platinum to Silver in one year -- at most, you'd lose one tier of elite status, no matter what.

Does CO have a similar system or can I expect to be Silver next year if (as a Platinum) I only get 40K in 2010?

Thanks.

Most airlines do not have "soft landings". AA, BD do, as far as I know. DL does not have that policy, but have done it in certain cases where you were a higher mileage flyer.

If you are quite close (2500 or less), you could try and write and ask for it. Otherwise, don't expect it.

I'm also looking at this possibility. I'll likely be dropping this year from Plat to Gold. I know the one year I dropped it was a direct plunge down, and I'm expecting that this year, if I miss the Plat status. It's going to be very close.

I've spoken to quite a few people on flights and in the PC who are also dropping. Hopefully 2011 will be better.

Repercussions of no DEQM promotions!

But honestly, if you are that close, why not take a mileage run?

+1

Definitely worth it to keep at least CO Gold. Gives you Star Gold too.

More Room at the Top?

Four out of four Platinum Elites I know are dropping status this year. And I am sure they are not along. With belt tightening, no DEQM promos and less seat sales, Top Elite status seems rare for 2011. Now I am wondering if Gold will be the new Platinum for 2011. I am 20K away from keeping Platinum and rethinking if I need to make a year-end MR or two.

Can someone take a short poll to see what the Elite Status climate for 2011 looks like for current Elites? I am not sure how to create a poll on this board.

Plat dropping to Gold
You simply write a poll question. Some stick, some don't. Usually one of the FTers who has been here awhile will do such a poll in December for YTD results. That'll tell you who made Plat again. Right now, some folks know if they will make it or not based on booked flights. But others, like me, aren't exactly sure.

I'm a Plat-lite, becoming (hopefully) Gold next year. Will take a MR in December to do it.

After about 14 years as Co Plat, it appears that I will be dropping to Gold next year as well (I have just made Gold and no trips planned). Usually by this time of the year, I have made Plat and am nearing the 100k mark. And had the Pres. Plat been introduced prior to this year, I would have made that mid-year on quite a number of those years.

Oh well--travel was down this year--we will have to see about 2011.

Dropping back to reality

I hope last year's DEQM promotions were an aberration not to be repeated. Too many people made it into levels affecting the Elite benefits for the real money-makers for CO. A lot of people who are dropping levels only made it to their current level because of the DEQM. Hopefully the Elite ranks at all levels will be reduced significantly come March 1.

Sorry - hard landings from precarious perches happen.

Looking at 115k genuine, non-DEQM, flown EQMs this year. Genuine 2010 Plat to Genuine 2011 Plat. The missus is going from Faux Plat to Genuine Gold. Was going to do mileage run to keep Plat this year, but BF trip IAH-LHR came up.

Fear not. I took the plunge and I'm doing fine. Because I'm flying less, I can afford to fly FC more often. ^ When I'm not flying FC, my Presidential Plus credit card ensures I board with Elites and sit in coachwhere, I might add, most elites end up sitting. A lot of good their elite status did them!

I think "rare" is overstating it significantly. There's loads of folks on here that have already earned top tier status for next year "the hard way."

I made mine the "real" hard way this year: just over 50k EQM, but 90+ EQPs. I feel like I know each and every 145 in the CoEx fleet personally at this point...
