MR to/from NRT: Doable?

Thinking of doing a same day turnaround to/from NRT from EWR. I know that CO 9 arrives at 1:55PM and the same day CO 8 departs later that afternoon at 4:35PM.

Anybody done this before and had any problems? (i.e. no idea how NRT works...can one stay in the sterile area for a tranist like this or do I need to go in/out of NRT immigration...how likely will they give me an issue with this)

Also, appears that CO 7 from IAH seems to always turn into the CO 8 to EWR...would it be safer to do that? (arrives at 2:20pm into NRT and then turns into the CO 8 at 4:35pm). Also means more EQM's which is the whole point at the same price.

Thanks!

This has been done before. There was a "mistake" B-fare ($650 i believe) SEA to NRT some time back on CO. A lot of people took up that one.

In NRT, you just stay in the sterile area for transit. You do not need to go to immigration at all.
You will have to re-clear security. So the rules for liquids still apply.

As soon as you clear security, you will see the CO desk (and United as well) on your left. Get your new BP, and get back on that plane!

If you have time, there is the UA RCC right past the ticket desks.
(close to CO and UA gates).

EDA: Note, I myself have not done this! Dont want to do 2 super long flights back-to-back!

Since you're CO Plat, you would also have access to the NH lounge near Gate 51. This is a bit of a hike, but if you land a bit early and want to sample the noodle and sake bars, it would probably be worth it to stretch your legs after all that flying!!

Yes, this is true.
Also: Way in the back of the ANA lounge, there are some lounging chairs that almost become flat...

I like the actual showers in the ANA lounge compared to RCC. But the RCC has soap, shampoo in bottles...unlike the ANA which give you the stuff in little paper packets.

The ANA lounge restroom has the fancy toilet seat that is heated and has all sorts of gadgets....not so at the RCC (at least not in the shower suites)....

You might also try pricing a trip to GUM via NRT both ways as well. B fares tend to be lower (although, make sure segments are CO metal - or OnePass will spin the fare class wheel of misfortune to determine what credit you get).

NRT: Doable

I have made connections with less than 40 minutes remaining before departure. Just notify FA so they can move you to the front of the plane before landing so you can beat the rush.

Out of interest, what are the cheapest fares you've found for doing this? I've done similar trips in the past, it would want to be <$800 before I'd seriously consider it...
