Thats what I thought, thanks! Some other impossible routes seem to be DEN-IAH, PHL-IAH. I have never been upgraded on those, and 1/2 the plane's always elite. Either that or I'm selecting bad times.

Really? I know its elite heavy, but even hard on the 777 or 764 routes?

also the reverse, EWR-IAH. I've got a B fare *and* a miles redemption (part of a China trip) request, and no love. At least there's E+. Oh wait, no there isn't

i haven't taken iah-ewr yet, but i did just get off of iah-lga about an hour ago and when they called to board elites, what looked like half the crowd filed in line. it was also a dingy old 737-700.

funnily enough though, EWR-LAX was the first flight i took ever since i got my silver back and i was able to get an EUA right then. on a friday early evening flight no less.

Keep an eye out for auto upgrades. I'm not convinced those mileage waitlists work properly. If you are on B and availability opens, you should take advantage of the auto upgrade yourself.

Depends on day/time of the flight. As a silver, I have been upgraded on this route a few times this year. Even on an L fare!

As a Gold, I've managed to score EWR->IAH upgrades (even a companion upgrade or two) by taking the ridiculously early flights to IAH. Since I'm generally starting a full day of travel, I don't mind.

On the way back, I tend to take a later flight and generally go IAH->LGA. It's a smaller plane, but I've had good luck with upgrades (for myself, never for a companion) on that route. As an added benefit, it's cheaper to get home from LGA than EWR.

is there some kind of business first or at least BF seats on some of IAH-EWR? I usually only fly to the west coast

IIRC there is a 762 in the schedule plus periodic equipment swaps.

I have taken the 762 few times. There are usually 2 762/764 flights EWR-IAH.
I have even seen 777 listed occasionally.

This isn't such a bad route for EUA IMHO. I've had FAR better luck with EUA between IAH and EWR than EWR and SFO ...
