seat assignment change

Made reservations In January for 2 roundtrip Businessfirst tickets from Houston to London (one was purchased, one was a reward) with seat assignments. Now one of us was moved from row 3 to row 11 on the flight over by Continental. Any recourse- continental will not say why they changed one of our seats, and there are not any seats together anywhere on the flight. Any recourse, or even how to get an explanation? Is this typical? Anyway to prevent it in the future. Seems like really bad form on the part of Continental.

When you booked your tickets it probably showed the old configuration (10 rows) and now your a/c has changed to the new configuration with the lie flat beds. first - enjoy every second of it - I did
Second, I'm sure that someone will not mind to switch with you as y'all board the a/c. Enjoy!

Happened to me several times. (Theory was that it was a FAM.) Basically, the line is your reservation entitles you to a spot in the class purchased but not a particular seat.

When you make reservations far in advance, regular CO flyers learn to check seat assignments at least once a week. When the aircraft changes, your seat assignments will likely change. Unfortunately, there is little recourse other than try to get seats together at the airport (and keep checking the website until departure).
